Grade 8 students and parents are invited to take part in the Open House events for all French-language Catholic secondary schools of the Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon from Tuesday, January 10, to Thursday, January 12. With its network of French-language Catholic secondary schools in Sudbury, Val Caron, Chelmsford, Espanola, Blind River, Sault Ste. Marie, Wawa and Chapleau, CSC Nouvelon offers a French-language Catholic educational program recognized for its excellence, innovation. Its secondary school programs enable students to acquire a high level of bilingualism and to receive top quality education that will prepare them to pursue all post-secondary destinations. Learning while having fun at École Saint-Joseph

 

Students in the grade 2/3 class at École Saint-Joseph School (Wawa) learned that the Indigenous peoples did not use the same objects as us to play games. Using a bag filled with various objects, the students had to follow a procedure to invent a new game or create a toy. Afterwards, they had to explain how to play this new game. The students enjoyed playing new games. Learning is possible through play and we do learn while having fun!

Les amis de la classe de 2e/3e à l’école Saint-Joseph (Wawa) ont appris que les peuples autochtones n’utilisaient pas le même matériel que nous pour jouer des jeux. À l’aide d’un sac rempli de divers objets, les élèves devaient respecter une marche à suivre afin d’inventer un nouveau jeu ou créer un jouet. Par la suite, ils devaient expliquer la façon de jouer ce nouveau jeu. Les élèves ont bien aimé jouer de nouveaux jeux. L’apprentissage se fait par l’entremise du jeu et on apprend en s’amusant !

During the month of November, students from École Sacré-Coeur (Chapleau) took part with much enthusiasm in a reading challenge. As part of this activity, each student had to keep track of the time spent reading various books in order to accumulate as many reading minutes as possible for their class. At the end of the month, the class and the students who accumulated the most minutes of reading were awarded a great Christmas basket! Congratulations to the grade 1 and 2 students who read for more than 16,600 minutes as well as to all the readers from École Sacré-Coeur for their impressive efforts.

Au cours du mois de novembre, les élèves de l'école Sacré-Coeur (Chapleau) ont participé avec enthousiasme à un défi de lecture. Chaque élève devait comptabiliser le temps accordé à la lecture de divers livres afin d’accumuler le plus de minutes de lecture possible pour sa classe. À la fin du mois, la classe et les élèves ayant accumulé le plus de minutes de lecture se sont mérité un super panier de Noël! Bravo aux élèves de la 1re et 2e année qui ont réussi à lire pendant plus de 16,600 minutes ainsi qu’à tous les lecteurs et lectrices pour leurs efforts impressionnants.

ÉSC Trillium students benefit from a multidisciplinary artistic experience

 

For a few weeks, students from École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) registered in the Visual Arts course had the great pleasure of taking part in a multidisciplinary project. This activity’s goal was support students in completing an A to Z painting workshop in the classroom. With the support of their teacher, the students therefore fabricated their own art easels as well as the frame of their paintings.  Guided by the artist Ms. Natasha Boucher, they were then able to paint these canvases as well as learn new painting techniques! The ÉSC Trillium Coyotes would like to thank Mr. Julian Boucher and Ms. Natasha Boucher for allowing them to live this wonderful artistic experience!

Durant quelques semaines, les élèves de l’école secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) inscrits au cours d’Arts visuels ont eu le grand plaisir de participer à un projet multidisciplinaire. L’objectif de cette activité était de voir à la réalisation d’un atelier de peinture en salle de classe de A à Z. Avec l’encadrement de leur enseignant, les élèves ont donc fabriqué leurs propres chevalets ainsi que le cadre de leurs toiles. Guidés par l’artiste Natasha Boucher, ils ont ensuite pu peindre ces toiles ainsi que d’apprendre de nouvelles techniques de peinture! Les Coyotes de l’ÉSC Trillium remercient M. Julian Boucher et Mme Natasha Boucher de leur permis de vivre cette belle expérience artistique!

Two CSC Nouvelon students are living an unforgettable experience at Queen’s Park

From November 14 until December 8, two Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will have the opportunity to live a unique experience at Queen’s Park as Pages in the province’s Legislature. Ema MacAulay, a grade 8 student at École catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), and Havana Thibodeau-Bello, a grade 8 student at École Saint-Joseph (Wawa), were selected among hundreds of applicants seeking to participate in the Legislative Page Program.

 

A first challenge that both students met with success before the start of this adventure was memorizing the faces, names and ridings of the 124 members of provincial parliament with whom they will work at Queens Park. The Pages play an important role in the Legislature. They work in the Legislative Chamber as messengers, performing many helpful duties for the Members of Provincial Parliament and the Officers of the House.

 

“We take great pride in seeing two CSC Nouvelon students benefit from this incredible learning experience. While becoming experts of Ontario’s legislative system, Havana and Ema will meet some outstanding citizens. With this experience, they will continue to share their leadership in their schools as well as within their communities,” stated Mr. Paul Henry, CSC Nouvelon Director of Education and Secretary Treasurer.

 

Each year, some 150 boys and girls are selected from across Ontario to serve as Pages at the Legislative Assembly. The program is an educational opportunity for outgoing, high-achieving, community-involved grade 7 and 8 students who have demonstrated responsibility and leadership.

Deux élèves du CSC Nouvelon vivent une expérience inoubliable à Queen’s Park

Du 14 novembre au 8 décembre, deux élèves du Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon pourront vivre une expérience mémorable à Queen’s Park en tant que pages à la législature ontarienne. Ema MacAulay, élève de 8e à l’école catholique Félix-Ricard (Sudbury), et Havana Thibodeau-Bello, élève de 8e à l’école Saint-Joseph (Wawa), ont été sélectionnées parmi des centaines de demandes pour participer au Programme des pages de l’Assemblée législative de l’Ontario.

Un premier défi que ces deux élèves ont dû relever avant même l’amorce de cette expérience aura été de mémoriser les visages, les noms et les circonscriptions électorales des 124 députés provinciaux afin d’être prêtes à entreprendre ce stage à Queen’s Park. Les pages jouent un rôle important dans la législature et servent diverses fonctions au parlement. À titre de messagers, ils rencontrent des politiciens et des officiels, apprennent comment les lois sont développées et comment la province de l'Ontario est gouvernée.

Chaque année, environ 150 filles et garçons de tous les coins de la province sont sélectionnés pour servir comme pages à l’Assemblée législative de l’Ontario. Le Programme des pages est une expérience éducative unique à l’intention des élèves ontariens des 7e et 8e années qui font preuve d’entregent, qui ont d'excellents résultats scolaires, qui démontrent un sens de la responsabilité et qui ont des qualités de leadership.

ÉS Saint-Joseph athletes perform great sporting feats

Since the start of the school year and the return of sports competitions, the Chevaliers of École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) have performed great feats! The junior and senior girls’ basketball teams as well as the junior boys’ volleyball team were able to qualify for the North Shore Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NSSSAA) finals. The cross-country running team stood out at the Northwestern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletic Association (NWOSSA) competition held in Thunder Bay. While qualifying for the provincial championship (OFSAA), some ÉS Saint-Joseph athletes achieved their best personal result of the season. Congratulations to the Knights!

Having won the East Division, the senior girls’ team hosted the NSSSAA basketball finals on November 14. The ÉS Saint-Joseph Chevaliers junior roster enjoyed great success and earned the coveted championship banner. We also highlight the participation of the junior boys' volleyball team and the senior girls' basketball team of ÉS Saint-Joseph, who represented the school well in the NSSSAA championship. We warmly thank the coaches who shared their passion and expertise with the athletes.

Egg-cellent learning project offered to ÉSC Trillium students

 As part of their Physics class, students from the École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) used critical thinking as well as problem-solving skills. They had to find an ingenious way to reduce the force of the impact in order to protect an egg during a fall. After fabricating their landing mechanism, the students went on the roof of the school to test the effectiveness of their creations. What an egg-cellent learning experience!

 Dans le cadre du cours de Physique, des élèves de l’École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) ont dû faire appel à la pensée critique et à leurs habiletés en résolution de problème. Ils devaient trouver une façon ingénieuse de réduire la force de l’impact afin de protéger un œuf lors d'une chute. Après avoir fabriqué leur mécanisme, les élèves sont allés sur le toit de l’école pour tester l’efficacité de leurs créations. Quelle belle expérience!

Over the past few weeks, students from École secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) registered in the Journey in the Catholic Faith (Cheminement dans la foi catholique) course have lent a hand to Pastor Dan and his team. As part of a community initiative led by the Pentecostal Church of Chapleau, the students took part in the organization of an auction to raise funds to help families in Haiti. We warmly congratulate these young leaders as well as their teachers who reflect beautiful Catholic values ​​such as mutual aid, kindness and altruism!

Au cours des dernières semaines, les élèves de l’école secondaire catholique Trillium (Chapleau) inscrits au cours de Cheminement dans la foi catholique ont prêté main-forte à Pastor Dan et à son équipe. Dans le cadre d’une initiative communautaire menée par l’église pentecôtiste de Chapleau, les élèves se sont impliqués dans la mise sur pied d'une vente aux enchères visant à recueillir des fonds pour venir en aide aux familles de l’Haïti. Nous félicitons vivement ces jeunes leaders ainsi que leurs enseignants qui sont le reflet de belles valeurs catholiques comme l’entraide, la bonté et l’altruisme!

Mini-clubs make a return at École Sacré-Coeur

 

Every month, students at École Sacré-Coeur (Chapleau) have the great opportunity to take part in mini-clubs offered by the school’s teaching staff. All staff members offer a club different from the others. Students can then choose to participate in the clubs that interest them the most! Among the many activities offered, there are card games, crafts, bingo, baking, Kahoot quizzes and more. These identity-building and socialization activities vary from month to month. We would like to thank the members of the staff of École Sacré-Coeur for this great initiative much appreciated by students!!!

 À tous les mois, les élèves de l’école Sacré-Cœur (Chapleau) participent aux mini-clubs offerts par le personnel enseignant. Tous les membres du personnel offrent un club distinct des autres et les élèves peuvent alors choisir de participer aux clubs qui les intéressent le plus! Parmi les activités offertes, on y retrouve des jeux de cartes, des bricolages, un bingo, de la cuisson, des questionnaires Kahoot et plus encore. Ces activités de construction identitaire varient de mois en mois. On remercie vivement les membres du personnel de Sacré-Cœur pour cette belle initiative !!!

FUN AND LEARNING AT ÉCOLE SAINT-JOSEPH

Fun and learning at École Saint-Joseph

 

Grade 4 students at École Saint-Joseph (Wawa) used their problem solving skills in oral communication as well as teamwork to accomplish various objectives. In small groups, they completed puzzles and built a spaghetti tower and pyramids with beakers. In addition, students participated in small games that required the encouragement of their group and even had the chance to compete in a friendly Connect 4 tournament. Fun and learning go hand-in-hand at École Saint Joseph!

Les élèves de la 4e année à l’école Saint-Joseph (Wawa) ont fait appel à leurs habiletés en résolution de problème, en communication orale et de travail d’équipe afin d'accomplir divers objectifs. En petit groupe, ils ont entre autres fait des casse-têtes et construit une tour en spaghetti et des pyramides avec des gobelets. De plus, les élèves ont participé à de petits jeux qui nécessitaient l’encouragement de leur groupe et ont même eu la chance de compétitionner dans un tournoi amical de Connect 4. Le plaisir et l'apprentissage sont au rendez-vous à l’école Saint-Joseph!

CSC Nouvelon students to celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day

While the provincial Franco-Ontarian Day will be observed on Sunday, September 25, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students will celebrate this day along with staff and parents in their school on Thursday, September 22, or on Monday, September 26. They will be able take part in a multitude of activities in their schools and communities planned to honour the strength of their francophone community. The following is a list of activities hosted by CSC Nouvelon schools. Members of the media are invited to attend.

 

Thursday, September 22, 2022
 
École Alliance St-Joseph (3634 Errington Ave., Chelmsford) will celebrate this day on Thursday, September 22, by hosting a variety of pride activities for students including a flag raising ceremony, a mini tintamarre (animated march) which will allow students to make noise while holding flags, a candy contest, the unveiling of the « Moi, j’parle français » (Me, I speak French) contest and a flash activity.
 
Collège Notre-Dame (100 Lévis St., Sudbury) will mark Franco-Ontarian Day on Thursday, September 22. From 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will gather in the gymnasium to take part in activities organized by the Student Parliament. Afterwards, students will be treated to a French-language musical performance featuring CND’s Bistro and Franco-Ontarian artist Stef Paquette.
 
On Thursday, September 22, students from École St-Joseph (100 Bruyère St., Sudbury) will wear green and white coloured clothing and participate in various activities, including the creation of a collective Franco-Ontarian flag.
 
At École St-Pierre (2115 Rita St., Sudbury), students will take part in a sweater design contest on Thursday, September 22. Dressed in green and white or a Franco-Ontarian sweater, students will sing the songs “Notre Place,” “Mon beau drapeau” and “Personne ne pourra m’arrêter.” In the afternoon, they will assemble for a rally featuring fun Francophone pride activities.

At École Notre-Dame-du-Sault School (600 North St., Sault Ste. Marie), students and school staff will participate in several activities on Monday, September 26. At 9:15 a.m., elementary students will participate in a flag raising ceremony, while secondary students will proceed with their flag raising at 12:15 p.m. Activities organized by the Student Parliament will follow.
 
The students and staff at École catholique Félix-Ricard (691 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury) will participate in a rally, which will include a flag raising ceremony, on Monday, September 26 at 1:35 p.m. 
 
Upon their arrival at École secondaire du Sacré-Coeur (261 Notre-Dame Ave., Sudbury), students will be greeted with Franco-Ontarian music, receive their Franco tattoo and participate in pride-building activities. Having had the opportunity to enjoy a cupcake in the form of a frog during lunch, students will afterwards gather in the gymnasium for music and presentations.
 
Earlier this week, École St-Paul (185 6th Avenue, Lively) launched activities featuring this celebration. During the week, students were able to create a flag for each class, sing “Notre Place” and answer questions from Captain Franco. On Monday, September 26, at 10:20 a.m., students and staff, dressed in green and white, will take part in a flag raising ceremony, share their shouts, unveil their class flags and share their songs. In addition to a green-and-white themed snack, students will be treated to a Franco bingo.

ÉS SAINT-JOSEPH STUDENTS OBTAIN BASIC CANOE CERTIFICATION

ÉS Saint-Joseph students obtain basic canoe certification

 

Students at École secondaire Saint-Joseph (Wawa) recently lived an extraordinary outdoor learning experience. They traveled to the mouth of the Michipicoten River to obtain their basic canoe certification. The instructors, Callie and Rupert from Naturally Superior Adventures, taught them many essential skills including how to rescue a capsized canoe.

École St-Joseph students and staff mobilize to clean up Dubreuilville

 

At the end of September, students and school staff at École St-Joseph (Dubreuilville) participated in a community clean-up initiative led by Alamos Gold Inc. and the Municipality of Dubreuilville. The students joined several members of the community who mobilized to contribute to this great activity. Their goal was to sensitize the whole community to the importance of maintaining a clean, green and waste-free environment. Congratulations to the École St-Joseph school community for their great participation

En fin septembre, les élèves et les membres du personnel de l’école St-Joseph (Dubreuilville) ont participé à une initiative de nettoyage communautaire menée par Alamos Gold Inc. et la municipalité de Dubreuilville. Les élèves se sont joints à plusieurs membres de la collectivité qui se sont mobilisés afin de contribuer à cette belle activité. Leur objectif était de sensibiliser l’ensemble de la collectivité envers l’importance de maintenir un environnement propre, vert et sans déchet. Bravo à la communauté scolaire de Dubreuilville pour leur belle participation.
