Lines are out of the water as Chapleau's 24th annual Pike Ice Fishing Derby is now in the books.
Back after a year away - due to the COVID-19 pandemic - the derby saw several fish reeled in, including a 30.75-inch, 7.96 pound pike which earned Keith Boyer of Red Lake the $10,000 first prize, followed by a 7.66-pounder from Michael Velanoff of Terrace Bay - which won him a Honda ATV - and a 6.6-pounder from Ashley Keech, who claimed the $4000 third prize.
There was also excitement for the derby's registration prize, announced by Jocelynne Bernier.
As for the logo contest for next year's 25th annual derby, the winner was Mr. Turcotte and his fiance, with four youth entries also honoured.
The photo contest, however, has been extended to March 12th, allowing pictures from this year's derby - multiple entries are allowed, emailed to chapleauderbyregistration@hotmail.com - with an online vote to determine the winner of the $300 first prize, $200 second prize, and $100 third prize.
