Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign Begins With Flag Raising in Wawa

Wawa is wrapped in purple today - and will be for the next few weeks - as part of a campaign in solidarity with abused women.

CHADWIC Home Executive Director Bonnie Ross explains the purple shows support for the "Shine the Light on Woman Abuse" campaign.

In addition to flying the "Shine The Light On Woman Abuse" flag at the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre - raised in a ceremony on Monday - the Wawa Goose will also be lit up in purple and a hydro pole downtown's been draped in purple lights, though businesses and residents are encouraged to put purple lights up to fill the community with the colour.

Ross emphasizes a message from the campaign.

Ross reminds survivors can not just reach out to CHADWIC Home but also Wawa and Area Victim Services, the local hospital, or police.

The campaign continues through the 16 Days of Action on Violence Against Women, ending on Human Rights Day, which is December 10th.
