As nominations for municipal elections across Ontario close this Friday, Wawa Clerk Cathy Cyr reminds it's a simple process: obtain the forms from the municipal office or website, fill them out, then bring them in - and pay the required fee.
Cyr notes there are a few basic requirements to run, using Wawa as an example.
The deadline is 2 pm Friday, with candidates to be certified after that.
More COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the region - with a few still active in the northern Sudbury District.
Public Health Sudbury and Districts has added 80 cases since Wednesday - 67 in Greater Sudbury, nine in the broader Sudbury District, and four in the Manitoulin District - with known "active" cases up to 229, including 33 in hospital, three in ICUs.

Wawa's Lady Dunn Health Centre is flagging issues with a staffing shortage.
Noting the whole province is experiencing "a sustained, system-wide pressure on emergency department staffing levels due to COVID-related absences, staff fatigue, and burnout" - with Emergency Department staffing pressures "being felt by hospitals across the country" - the hospital says it's experiencing a staffing shortage in its physician group August 13th through 15th.
Though it assures the local physicians - with support of locums - will work to keep the local Emergency Department open, it is asking over those days that you only visit the E-D if you have any emergency.
If you're unsure whether you have an emergency, it recommends seeking advice from a Registered Nurse by calling Health Connect Ontario at 8-1-1 (or by visiting ontario.ca/healthconnectontario), which is available 24/7.
It also warns that patients who come to the hospital will be prioritized based on "medical needs", and may experience "longer wait times" August 13th through 15th.

Three people are facing multiple charges after a well-being check in Wawa found an individual in distress.
Superior East Ontario Provincial Police say officers conducted the check at a Churchill Avenue residence the night of July 18th, with police finding the individual in distress, leading to the the arrest of a 41-year-old Dubreuilville man, a 39-year-old Wawa man, and a 60-year-old Wawa woman - all three are charged with forcible confinement and extortion, with the men also charged with assault and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, while the woman's been charged with obstruct peace officer.
The two men were remanded into custody pending bail hearings, while the woman was released from custody, scheduled to appear in Wawa court in a month.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry's Aviation, Forest Fire, and Emergency Services says a single new "wildland fire" was reported by late Tuesday afternoon: "Chapleau 12", which was a tenth of a hectare in size on the east side of an island on Kilpatrick Lake, though the fire has since been declared "out".
The fire hazard for the Northeast is moderate north of Timmins and Highway 101, and low south of that line.

Mantha accuses the PC government of being "MIA" since the election - even after health care was a priority for all parties in the campaign) - calling for them to "step up" but also vowing to work with them to address issues like "almost absent" primary care in many Algoma-Manitoulin communities.
The NDP's Mines, Natural Resources, and Tourism Critic - and Deputy Whip - Mantha also notes another key item that needs to be addressed: infrastructure.
The Algoma-Manitoulin MPP also notes the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference is coming up, offering the chance to hear about common issues facing municipalities across the province, such as a need for alternate revenue streams.
